What is Health?

The above question is frequently asked, and seems most obvious and simple, but is not as easier to answer as it is thought to be. Firstly, we need to grasp the idea of health i.e. What is health? Is having no disease means one is healthy? Or having proper physique, taking necessary ingredients, and having healthy body means being healthy? These are the most typical questions one should always ask to oneself. But the point of discussion is quite different here. In order to comprehend health in a systematic way, we have to look for an dependable definition of health.

The WHO (World Health Organization) Definition of Health is;

“Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”

If we rely on the definition of health, we can see, health comes with the full compendium of physical, mental, and social well-being. Let’s elaborate the parts of the above definition by WHO in order to clutch the complete idea of health. First and foremost, physical fitness is the major aspect of being healthy that is related to a good physique. Having proper body, necessary proteins to heal the body in a better way, and proper fats on it, are the essentials that prove a body to be healthy. Secondly, mental stability that is, proper awareness of virtuous and evil, tangible and bogus, falsehood and veracity and all the communal factors. Lastly, socially well-being is the chief fact and fairly problematic to understand. Having a proper sense of responsibility towards society, state and other human beings. A social well-being can be demarcated in simple words as “the member of the society who is not injurious to other adherents of the society, who observe directions and rules, esteem the law-and-order situation, and work to make the society a better place for others.” Now applying the above explanation of the given definition, we have a rough idea what actually health is all about. Besides these characteristics health can be divided into two major types.

Types of Health:

If we talk about the types of health, we can divide it into to major types as mental health and physical health.

1.     Mental Health

As we have already discussed briefly, mental health is related to presence of mind. One is considered to be healthy, if he has an operational brain, and he can differentiate between good and evil, expensive and cheap, besides these; what to, when to and where to say something, and where to remain silent. One should have comprehensive understanding, and should be aware of all customs of the society one is living in. Apart from these, emotional strongness and control over the negative thought is all the part of mental health. Being controller of emotions, and never let them lead you anywhere shows that one is mentally and healthy. If a man has a proper shaped and healthy physique, but he doesn’t have a proper or stable brain, it means he is not healthy, and conventionally known as mentally ill. Fact is, having proper and properly shaped, and functioning body doesn’t comply with the definition of health.

2.       Physical Health

Comparing to above explanation, having a proper and stable mind, being in a good mental condition doesn’t comply with the definition of health. Instead, having a proper mind in a perfect and flawless body means being healthy. Having good physique, taking proper ingredients in daily routine, and burning all the extra calories are the essential stages. Further we think that having proper health is just taking proper meal, and give the proper time to exercise for burning extra calories, is real health but this is not the case. One should take the proper ingredients that are essential for daily routine for the body to work properly.

Health and Medicine trends in Pakistan:

There are three categories of people all over the country. Firstly, the local community that lies below the poverty line, and hardly manages the daily requirements. Secondly, there are the middle-class people, and at third one finds high class or upper-class people. First of all, we are going to deal with the local or lower-class people in Pakistan. These are the most typical people of the society who are fighting against their daily needs. This is the community that lies below the poverty line, and tries not to waste the money, and goes out of their budget. They do not take pain of visiting doctors, and go for proper medication. Most of the time they try home remedies in order to cure any disease, and major to minor issue. If one reveals them that they are suffering from blood or chest cancer, or they are having any major disease like Hepatitis C, they would prefer taking local medicine or trying the local physician. This happens all the time just because they cannot afford the expensive cure on cutting-edge era. Some of them think that there is no need to visit the doctor, and waste the money.

Secondly there comes middle-class people, having all the resources around them, and can afford all types of medicine. There are two kinds of people in this category. First are those, who have little knowledge about medicine, and try taking medicines at home. Most of the time you’ll find all types of medicines at their homes, and see them taking or trying different types of medicine. Second type of people, who want to visit an expensive doctor, as they believe that visiting an expensive doctor leads them to preserve good health. They also believe that he is expensive, because of his knowledge. If they feel fever, they pack their bags, and visit the doctor, they believe in. Although we need to comprehend the idea that fever is not actually a disease, rather it is just increased body temperature. This class of people have ample amount to spend on their expenses related to health, and other needs.

Lastly, there is upper class of Pakistan. Most of them have diet plans for daily routine, and they have family doctors. They always prefer visiting their family doctor, because they believe that their doctors have all the solutions to their problems. Some of these, visit there doctors every week just for routine check-up. This class of people carries their necessary things with them e.g., Water, food, and medicine

By classifying the different doctors and medicine trends, we mean that what matters the most in habits is your class and category. And in most of the cases we see that financial status, education, and level of awareness cause the class distinction. Classes are not meant to be the symbol of disgrace or disrespect rather all the societies of the world are based on different class, and class difference is the part of our society from centuries.

Pros and Cons of Medicine:

Here applies that everything has pros and cons, but medicine comes with less pros and more cons. Preserving good health doesn’t mean that one should always go for medicine in any kind of illness. Taking any medicine for any disease means one is going to cure one disease, but going to get many others. If one searches for any medicine on the internet with its generic name, and opens any link, one always gets the table of side effects somewhere after the uses. Most of people take medicine without even knowing the side effects of these medicine. Now the question arises, what to do in illness if not take medicine? The answer is quite simple here, one should always visit a doctor, having relevant information.

Which doctors should be consulted?

Most of us don’t bother to search for the right, and relevant doctor, for the right medication. Each one of us has enough information that which doctor should be visited in case of any disease. If a person is having an illness related to kidney or urine, he should visit a urologist or kidney specialist. If one is facing any issue related to head or brain, he should go for the neurologist, someone having any issue related to knee, leg, arm or any kind of bone illness, he should visit any orthopedic. What matters the most in illness, is the right choice of doctor at the right time. These are the most obvious points that everybody should be aware of, but what lacks here is the proper education related to the issue. We need to have ample of knowledge in order to get the right cure at the right time and place. Taking any medicine without consulting the right doctor is as harmful as poison, and I believe, I do not need to explain the effects of poison on human body.

Precautions to preserve Good Health:

Health is the best blessing ever granted by Almighty, and one should always try to preserve it in a better way. After all the discussion, we end up with the question that how can we preserve good health? What steps should we take in order to avoid illness and doctors?

For preserving good health, and avoiding doctors and medicine, we always need to take proper and planned diet. Besides this, one should always know the importance of healthy body and mind. No matter, one can afford a good diet, or he is having low budget to afford it. But one thing always remains the same in all the cases, and that is proper time of taking the diet, and proper way of utilizing it through hard work, exercise or using other different strategies. Last but not the least, one should have ample of knowledge about the essential nutrition one has to take in daily routine, and in case of unawareness one should visit the nearest nutritionist.

Part of Nutritionists & Conclusion:

As we lack the routine of visiting nutritionists, they also have the responsibilities towards other. They should prefer writing articles, publishing pamphlets, arranging seminars and spreading the necessary information related to the diet plans. We always lack plans for health in Pakistan. According to a report 3.17% budget is spent in health departments of Pakistan. So far, as a weak economy, we have faced multiple issues related to health, but hopefully in near future we expect good outcome, and steps in our Health department.
